[1] This portrait was purchased by an anonymous donor for the museum from Robin Symes; an invoice from Robin Symes Limited, dated April 21, 1980, is included in curatorial file.

[2] Robin Symes (b. 1939) operated as an art and antiquities dealer in London from about 1970. Robin Symes Limited was founded in 1977 and dissolved in 2005.
